“The Book of Sleep” is an artist’s book by Fiona Mouzakitis, which includes photographs, digital collages, AI generated images, drypoint prints, text and poems.
“The Book of Sleep” is meant as an exploration of sleep and consciousness. Sleep removes us from the real world into imaginary places. When we sleep, time and space disappear. We lose consciousness and, in our dreams, all real-world constrictions disappear. Our subconscious mind rules and our feelings and fears are expressed freely.
Dreams, nightmares, feelings and the actual process and stages of sleep are part of the images presented in “The book of Sleep”. A light siesta in a hot day or a deep and restful sleep at night. A visual journey from night till dawn.
All photographs and prints are created by the artist. The digital collages are photographs taken by the artist and include found objects and miniature sculptures by the artist. The AI generated images are used to bring into life the artist’s own dreams. The images are accompanied by the artist’s thoughts on the subject of sleep.
"The Book of Sleep" was exhibited in October - November 2025 at the exhibition "BOOKMORPHS: Artists' Books from Greece & the UK" at the Hellenic Centre, London.
It will be on show again in Luxembourg from the 24th of April till the 21st of June at the Ratskeller, Cercle Cité.
